It's been a while since there's been anything truly newsworthy to report here, so sorry for the lag in updates! There's probably nothing truly groundbreaking to say yet, but here we are!
It's almost February already, can you believe it? Time is moving quickly for us. Maybe it's our position in relationship to the equator! Ha ha! The weather here has been decidedly unlike South Texas lately with temps going as low as the 30s at night over the past few weeks with lots of rain! The change in temperature has been nice, but I will say the moisture has been getting old. We've enjoyed a few cool dry days which has been nice. You never know how much you appreciate getting to wear a sweater or a jacket until you actually need one!
Tonight is the first Young Life club of the semester. We've had a movie night and an ice skating night already to hang out with kids the past month, but we're finally getting things rolling for the new semester tonight. It should be a lot of fun...I think we're planning a dry Kool Aid eating contest among other things! We also have a new website at www.myspace.com/valleyyounglife if you want to check up on us more frequently and see some pictures. There's not a kid in America NOT on myspace lately (that's the way it seems). Who would have known that it would become a ministry tool? Well, anything that glorifies God, right? :) This coming weekend we're also going to have our Polar Bear weekend (which we call February Fling because of the lack of polar ANYTHING down here) at a nearby camp. We're hoping to have at least 50 kids come. Please pray that we have a great time, that everyone stays safe, and that kids meet Christ!
John has been getting back into his routine of teaching and he'll soon be collecting his first round of papers to grade (cringe). We are seeing a lot more of each other in the mornings since he's been cooking breakfast for us almost every day! It's a lot of fun, although he gets a little too experimental for me with his seasoning choices on some days. He really is turning out to be a great cook...he's even commented that he can't wait to cook breakfast for our kids one day! Fine by me because there's only one morning person in this family so far and it's NOT me!
We also have a movie recommendation for everyone: Akeelah and the Bee. We rented it last night and we LOVED it! It's rated PG and it had one or two cuss words in it, but overall it was an incredible movie!! Right up there with Rocky (which reminds me to also recommend Rocky Balboa...totally worth the ticket price at the theater while it's still on the big screen). Great family movie that we will probably end up purchasing because we liked it so much!
Another Monday. Have a great week!
